Loneliness may be exacerbated at Christmas, however that is due to the hype, consumerism and advertising around the event which shows people gathering together, sharing, enjoying food and a joke and a feeling of goodwill and good wishes.
If a person was by themself, they could make the day special for themself by doing something they enjoy, eating something they like or buying themself a gift.
Personally, I'd prefer Christmas to not exist as a day or concept then people wouldn't create expectations around the day and a fear of missing out. Christmas is an inconvenience that I can do without, and we do as little as possible.
