Holidaying during the school term can be a divisive topic, and I believe it largely depends on the circumstances. In Australia, with its vast distances and unique experiences—like the Great Barrier Reef or Uluru—some families see term-time holidays as an opportunity to explore without the peak-season crowds. However, I also understand the importance of consistency in a child’s education, which is why many parents prefer to stick to term breaks for travel.
For us, term breaks work best as they align with my child’s schedule, ensuring he doesn’t miss out on lessons or social connections at school. That said, I can see the value in an occasional term-time trip if it offers unique cultural or educational opportunities that enrich a child’s perspective. Ultimately, it’s about finding the right balance and ensuring any time away is communicated with the school to minimise disruption.

Do it! Missing a couple of weeks of school is nothing compared to the experiences and learnings a child receives from travelling. We travel to a new overseas destination every year and it always is during school time. The school have never complained and our kids are not struggling or failing. We always make sure we incorporate cultural 3eriences into our travel and the kids learn so much more! Culture, language, try new foods and experience places they otherwise only see on tv. Travel is an experience that nothing compares to!

I have always been against it as it interrupts a child's learning. The importance of schooling needs to be promoted, adhered to and prioritised over a cheaper holiday outside school holidays. When our daughter was in school the school would distribute communication asking parents not to take their children out of school for holiday during term. Teachers dislike it as it interrupts their teaching program and assessments and is very selfish of the parents.
