Do you buy speciality cheese (local or imported) on a regular basis? I wish I could afford to eat a bit every day as part of my meal - like the French do. I find I only buy it these days to have with drinks on the weekends on a platter.

If it was more affordable, would you buy it regularly?

I absolutely love speciality cheese and try to include it in my shopping whenever I can. Here in Australia, we’re lucky to have access to an amazing variety of both local and imported cheeses. Some of my favourites are Australian-made bries and blues, which often rival their European counterparts. Like you, I tend to enjoy them most on weekends, paired with a platter of crackers, nuts, and fruit.

If it were more affordable, I’d definitely eat it more often—perhaps even incorporate it into daily meals like the French do. There’s something so indulgent yet satisfying about a bit of quality cheese, whether it’s crumbled over a salad or melted into a dish. Supporting local cheesemakers is also a big plus for me, as it helps sustain the industry and highlights the incredible talent we have here in Australia.

Yes, if speciality cheese was more affordable, I would buy it more often. I still prefer to have little top quality over poor quantity.

I'll quite happily spend extra for a good quality cheese.
I regularly buy fresh Ricotta 'baskets' and Greek Fetta to make my home made signature recipe of 'Gibanica' or maybe a cheese 'Burek' or some spinach and cheese filo pastry triangles.
I especially love buying my favourite MERSEY VALLEY product cheese variants whenever they are on special, I love the nutty flavours and the crumbly texture . . . not to mention the pleasant lingering aftertaste.
I have nil continental delicatessen shops where I live, so I ensure to have enough money put aside whenever I travel through Sydney or Canberra to splurge out on big portions of authentic Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano cheese straight from the wheel.
There's nothing like enjoying a nice charcuterie platter of fine cheese/deli meats/antipasto/crackers with some ice cold bottles of suds or a well chilled Wolf Blass sparkling Chardonnay on the back deck after a hard day's yakka on the farm.
The enjoyment that my Cheese selections bring to me is one of my life’s pleasures that I don’t want to compromise on.

We would probably buy a couple of specialty cheeses once a month to enjoy. I shop at Farmer Jack's in Perth and they have a great selection of cheeses. I usually buy ones on special with the last two I bought being a Dutch smoked pepper and an apricot cream cheese. I feel we are happy with our once a month outing into different cheeses as it make it a special sitting.
