I use them, but still only buy what I need. Coles is converted to cash as I don't use Virgin, but WW goes to QANTAS points.

The FlyBuys program is definitely better than Woolworths Rewards points-wise.
Lots of good discount vouchers and quicker to get $10 off your shop than Woolworths.
The trick is to make sure you buy what you actually need, but not waste a few extra dollars to get over $30 just to get points.
The downside is getting lots of spam- but then they need to contact you to let you know about promotions and specials coming up!

For most international students, shopper rewards card is a must, unless a relative is taking care of them. It's not a scam because it's free and you can redeem points whenever you buy groceries. When there's enough points, redeem them so that you could get vouchers which reduce the burden of your living cost. I'm a typical Malaysian that is really thrifty about these kind of things so as an poor and helpless international student, please get yourself a shopper rewards card especially the Flybuys card since many of the outlets accept them.

Yes, I use them religiously to earn reward points. But I do not buy stuffs I don't need just because they were on extra points promotion on that time. So far, I am getting back decent amount from flybuys every now, so am happy about it.

You can get dollar discounts for points accumulated through purchases with Coles group Flybuy loyalty program, Woolworth's everyday rewards, Velocity points accumulated gets you discount fuel at the BP pump. The downside of disclosing your shopping habits in exchange for rewards is that you become too transparent with some of your privacy is disclosed for interpretation across the Consumer marketplace. Privacy laws protect your personal information while your purchases and spending habits are open to interpretation and manipulation. In so doing companies can read your behaviour to offer you further services or discounts to entice you to spend more. Essentially they are offered not as scamming devise, but as a way your future consumer behaviour can be personalised and customised for your benefit. The companies can determine how consumers spend there money and design processes and systems to accommodate customers needs and demands. Whether we like it or not this is the way the modern marketplace is evolving and all we can do is help develop it or become hermits from mainstream society.

I use the woolies rewards i think its a good idea the 10 dollars off after so many pionts with 2 kids every bit helps but i dont like the fact you cant use it in big w anymore for point since

Same as a lot of people, watch the bonus point offers, dont buy things you wont use.Kmart had a bonus point offer on party supplies which I didn't need at the time but spent the required $10 to use for an event in September ( dont have to worry about it close to the date now).
For those of you with a lot of cards chunking up your wallet, there is a phone app called STOCARD I highly recommend to get. If your loyalty card has a barcode you can scan it into stocard and just present it at the checkout. It has many preloaded companiesrewards cards it recognizes

I always shop at Coles because of Flybuys and I am rewarded with cashing in over $100 which goes towards Christmas groceries. Some reward cards give you good deals but others, I would be wasting my time. With Flybuys, I am not linked to any other deals they have through credit card. I just do usual shopping and every now and then, hubby goes to Liquorland.

Some people may spend more to gain more points. If they do that is their problem. To me they are a bonus as I shop mainly for specials apart from items I run out of. The items I use all the time I buy extra when they are on special and hope they will be on special when I need them again.

I love the shop loyalty rewards cards, I am going to buy the products anyway so why not benefit from them, you do need to spend time working out which ones are best suited for your needs. Some weeks you may need to spend a little more than normal or stock up on a few items but if it can save you $50 go for it. So far this year between coles and woolies I have earned about $1500 off my shopping and not spent more than I normally would, actually less as I have used their money. I do have a number of other cards but are very slow to earn points but still use them as they have already included included the cost of points into the cost of goods so might as well use them and benefit

Woolies rewards cards are useful two fold - petrol savings as well as the monetary savings when you shop and hit the required point amount! Yes, occasionally I find other petrol outlets offering lower pricing (taking into account the 4 cents off that Woolies give you) but in general it is in Woolies favour.

Yes I use them all the time. I use flybys when I shop at the associated stores and save all my points up for Xmas and use it to by things last year I had an extra $200 odd to spend now that came in handy. It doesnt cost anything to use them and if the reward is going to cause you to spend more $ dont use it to by that purchase. We also use the frequent flyer points and fuel points as I said we are not saving thousands and thousands but its better than a poke with a POINTY STICK IE NOTHING.

Hi Bill, it won't be long before you will be rewarded for your loyalty. It does take a little time for you to build up the required points but providing you scan/use your rewards card(s) everytime you make purchases you will soon be rewarded. Thanks.

Hi Shaun, I am sorry but I believe the cards turn out to be a scam for the 'normal' home shopper. These days people have to watch what they spend their money on and can't chase shopper reward cards as it takes forever to get anything using a card.

Hi apple_barbara, Thank you for your input :) I too also use to think that but than I realized that if I am spending my money their anyway I may as well try to get rewarded with something even if it takes a while. Yes, we do have to watch whatv& where we spend our money. Which is why I'm a converted rewards member now. :) cheers!

I have well over 50 loyalty cards. I sign up for most cards and I like them. I like being rewarded for my loyalty and I'm happy for the company to collect info about me if it makes their offerings and marketing more targeted to my interests. I don't see any down side to it, besides having no room in my wallet.

Hi Devon, The fact you have over 50 loyalty/rewards cards shows your keen interest in being rewarded for your loyalty/purchases. Honestly I never knew their were so many cards/programs out their available. What is or would be the best or most expensive reward you've received??? I absolutely use them and try to take advantage of the special bonuses they often suggest - They obviously encourage you to spend more money whilst in store , but that's OK I still only buy what I want to ... I have had great success with both the coles flybuys and the woolies everyday cards , earning points and money off my shops too

Hi Enzo, that's really good to hear that you are taking full advantage of the rewards card from the supermarkets. As we all know that every little bit extra or saving helps. The key though as you so rightly pointed out was is to not get caught up in the hype or the program as a whole and stick with what you were originally going to purchase anyway. That way you won't end up spending hundreds of dollars just for a measly $10 off. Excellent point! Thank you.
