Should all healthcare industry students get paid placement?

As the cost of living is rising, we, as students are struggling to meet the demand in order to do placement in the Healthcare Industry. We will be able to contribute back to society and our roles are much needed in demand. To help encourage us to fulfil our studies, should we be paid when doing our placement in Universities across Australia?

Absolutely. You’re performing a role at a junior level in the workplace environment. It is beneficial for an employer to pay you, it would mean they are getting your 100% attention & ensuring your wellbeing. Students get a particularly raw deal — often undervalued but make up in time a considerable part of the skilled workforce. We need to learn to value that more

Absolutely. As unlike other studies, placement is mandatory so you cannot work a ‘normal’ job.

No. You already receive Commonwealth sponsored places and lower fees for your studies. Maybe you should consider studying part-time so you can juggle expenses and placement requirements for your study.
