I am a pensioner who equips poor village soccer teams, supplies educational items and funds to a village kindergarten and takes clothing out to remote impoverished villages. I live on a pension but fundraise with sausage sizzles, raffles and second hand book sales, My local soccer clubs give me their old boots and uniforms. At least I know exactly where the money and goods go as I deliver them myself.

I am going back to Bali in September and so busy fundraising so we can build a kitchen at the Kindergarten to ensure every child has breakfast and furnish a special needs area. I also need to get many more soccer boots for my village teams and ensure they can pay their fees into the Balinese comp. It is full on at the moment organising a Boots for Bali concert but everyone has had such a tough year that finding sponsors is much more difficult this year. Bless you all for your supporting words.

Other people are collecting old reading books or unwanted ones and sending it to schools in little villages in third word countries. Those whose are doing all these hard work are kind loving people. God bless them all.

Thank you to everyone who has given such encouraging comments. We have just held a concert with all entertainers performing free of charge. Along with raffles and auctions we have now paid off the special needs classroom in our village Kindergarten. We are going back in October (2013) and taking 10 others with us to see the work we have done and the difference we have managed to make. At least we know exactly where our donations go. For those who say they cannot afford to support a charity, there are so many ways you can still make a difference as a little goes a long, long way.

WOW! I like that idea! To us here in Oz soccer is just one of many options for the weekend. But i is a real boon for many who come here with no english - soccer it seems is becoming an 'universal language'.

And you are taking something that is of little use here, to be real treasure over there!

Good on you!

My optometrist collects glasses and sends them to Africa,...and you with your soccer gear...I wonder what else we have that we no longer value

It is so good to hear what other people are doing and thank you Fred for your years of making a difference. I live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland but will stay in touch if I hear of anyone in your area who would appreciate your help.
