I support this cause with conviction. I am so against the trade in live animals to countries who do not treat them with respect and in fact slaughter animals in the most inhumane way. It took Animals Australia to bring this shocking treatment of animals to the attention of Australians as the industry are more interested in their massive profits than in what was happening to the cattle once they left our shores. They have known for years what was happening and yet did nothing except put into the abatoirs in Indonesia a cruel "box" that the animal is put into. This box only made the slaughter even more inhumane. I have watched the Live Meat Ass. try to justify this practise by saying they did not know. I am not convinced that is true. I am hoping the trade will be stopped and that at last this country will stand up to the demands of foreign countries. They like our beef then buy it in a pre packed box!

Hi jan thanks for your reply. Apparently there are overseers sent from here to make sure that animals are treated humaely - but as you say "out of sight"" what we need to do is join with Animals Australia (they have a great web site) and the RSPCA and keep the pressure on. There is no need to send live animals to overseas buyers, we can slaughter them here and send chilled meat. Why Australia bows down to the demands of other coutries I will never understand. It is the might of the dollar that comes first. We need to keep a watch out here too as there is plenty of cruelty going on. The pork industry for one and ofcourse the chicken/egg industries. Be conscious of how the food you eat is killed and ask questions before you buy. I do and even though I am not pollular with some butchers (who cares) I want to know that the animals are being treated with respect. I'M FOR ANIMALS!
