Considering they entitled to use lethal force, and are equipped to do so, should police officers be subject to mandatory drug and alcohol testing. After all you can't work in mining or even local government without being tested and with the amount of accidents and shootings the police are involved in should not this be the first order of the day?

Law enforcement officers are drug tested. They have random testing that is conducted frequently. It is random because if they knew they had to give a urine sample upon turning up to work, and they had been drinking or abusing drugs, they would just buy a clean sample from someone else in order to pass the test!
