Why is valentines day so important?

In today's society valentines day is celebrated everywhere. I see girls walking around with roses, chocolates, teddies and often wonder do people esp. the youngsters even know what it stands for and the history behind it or is this just an excuse for companies to make more money?
I often get the disappointed look from family/friends upon telling them my husband and I don't celebrate valentines day.
Why is there so much pressure? Do you feel it too?
Shouldn't we love and care for each other every day of the year? What is so special about that particular day?

Yes i agree with you Taurus we should care and love each other every day of the year, but is nice to have one day of the year to show that love but it should'nt be a pressure for someone to celebrate it....it should be a choice.
