It seems to me that the transition from Primary to High School is a challenging one, made even greater by the fact that the new year 8's are being subjected to speeches about the enormity of the work load, the expectations, the need for immediate time management skills and independence. Could we not just tone it down for the first few weeks, offer encouragement and make sure that the students are settling in??

Unfortuantly we live in a society governed by numbers, taxes and more numbers and taxes. There are a number of educational institutes that are driven by numbers games which is pretty sad for my liking and really does take the focus off teaching our children and youth how to rather than throwing them a handbook and and letting them try to figure it out for themselves. I love your thoughts cause you a parent who is concerned about the welfare of your children and being concerned about their education is definitely something to be concerned about. I believe there are alot of gaps in the system that need to be addressed and proactively progress to ensure that 1. Our kids are getting the best out of education. 2. Parents are given that support to ensure that the journey is about family being teachable as well. 3. Families should never have to hinder on status financially.
I applaud you Toki for your concern for your children. Thats not being soft at all.
