Last year, I resolved to stop being stupid. For forty years, I'd doggedly followed a personal buy-Australian campaign to the derision of my friends and acquaintances. It's hard to drop the habit of one's adult life, and a number of times I had to remind myself that no-one else cares and it only further harms my bank account, depleted after ten years' unemployment.
This year, I'll just stop caring about the other issues - saving water, recycling, reducing waste and so on. All the other things I've been doing for decades but the government now spends my money trying to make me feel guilty about.
And I'll stop torturing Centrelink and the Job Network, too. That only wastes my time and theirs - they have no inclination to make use of my experience and qualifications. Much more profitable for them to find menial jobs for no-hopers.
