How do you feel about Christmas? Love it? Hate it?

Do you wish Christmas would come and go quickly or do you look forward to it with great enthusiasm? Do you believe Christmas has lost its meaning given all the materialistic connotations associated with it or does it still have a special place in your heart?

Hi Witchy - Leaving aside a comment that you made, - that as a wiccan it would be inconsistent for you to celebrate Christmas, (agreed) I would like to pick up on your comment about Dec 25th not being Jesus' actual birthday. You are correct - in part.
Just as we don't celebrate the Queen's birthday on her ACTUAL birthday, nor do most of us Christians take sabbath on the Sabbath...choosing Sunday instead, neither do we celebrate Jesus birthday on his ACTUAL birthday.
Yes, the actual date has been lost in obscurity as has many other events on the Jewish calendar that would have been the one that recorded the actual day. Our calendar has been amended to suit the whims of an ancient Roman Caesar, and over the years many other things have been added that have changed the way that this important anniversary is celebrated (Christmas trees and Santa to name but two)
But the central, important facts remain unaltered - and these have been verified both biblically and extra-biblically....and these are the things that remain central to what we celebrate at Christmas...no matter WHAT artificial date we choose to do it on, or how many extra 'frilly bits' have been added over the years.
But am I right in picking up that celebrating things on their actual days (such as solstices) is important to you as a wiccan? If so that makes sense as to why Christians not celebrating on actual dates is significant for you.
all the best
